'I believed it would happen' - Ngumoha backed himself to break through at Liverpool

The 18-year-old winger joined Liverpool's Academy in September 2024 and has quickly established himself around the senior squad. He has made 35 appearances for the club, scoring twice.

Ngumoha made his Liverpool debut against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup in January 2025 before making history seven months later.

He became Liverpool's youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer when he found the net on his league debut against Newcastle United.

Despite his age, Ngumoha said he always believed he could reach the first team.

Asked by the BBC if he would have believed his progress had someone predicted it last summer, he said: "Yes, definitely I would have because, like I say, I am a big believer in that you have to say what you want to achieve.

"Manifest it, even though it might sound crazy to another person, it can happen in life. Life can just be like that - so fast. So, I did believe it would happen."

Ngumoha has credited his work during pre-season with helping him make the step up.

He said: "I can't put it into words, especially since last year. I started with the first team properly in pre-season last season and I never looked back really.

"I just kept on going and going, trying to prove to myself and to everyone what I could do.

"I think I showed that so far. It's been quick but I think it's been good. I have been enjoying it."

Ngumoha's next opportunity to impress will come when Liverpool face Manchester City in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday, October 11.
