Bundesliga: Schalke end Bayern scoring streak, Dortmund earn last-gasp win

Karius carries Schalke to draw against Bayern

Schalke goalkeeper Loris Karius produced a Man of the Match performance as his side held champions Bayern Munich to a goalless draw at the VELTINS-Arena on Saturday.

The Bavarians began brightly with Lennart Kart testing Karius before Nathaniel Brown forced a good diving save after being set up by Joshua Kimmich within the first ten minutes.

Bayern dominated possession but almost conceded against the run of play before half-time with the home side fashioning a chance through an Adil Aouchiche 36th minute free kick that was well saved by veteran Manuel Neuer.

The second half belonged to Karius who made ten saves in the match to keep the score level, denying Harry Kane a winner four minutes from time.

"It was great for me," said Karius after his heroics.

"I only had to shout to keep going, move up, drop back. Real credit to the guys for what they did. They kept so much away and made things so incredibly hard for Bayern.

"The guys really worked hard until they couldn't go anymore. Everyone today can be proud of their performance."

The result sees Schalke gain their first point since their return to the Bundesliga while Bayern slip to fourth position after failing to score for the first time in 56-matches.

Dortmund earn dramatic late comeback win over Hoffenheim

Borussia Dortmund rallied back from two goals down to steal a 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim at the PreZero Arena.

The two sides made a cautios start to the match, with BVB being forced to substitute injured defender Filippo Mane at the half hour mark before the home side took the lead through an excellent strike from Leon Avallahu from 20 meters out.

Hoffenheim doubled their lead in the ninth minute of the second half via a Tim Lemperle goal, but Serhou Guirassy pulled one back two minutes later.

The visitors made a double change, bringing on Luca Reggiani and Fabio Silva, with the latter equalizing in the 66th minute, three minutes after the substitutions.

Dortmund pressed for a winner and were rewarded when Hoffenheim defender Albian Hajdari redirected a cross into his own net in the 85th minute.

The result moves Dortmund to second on the table while Hoffenheim occupy 16th spot.

Leverkusen hammer Union Berlin

Bayer Leverkusen produced an excellent attacking performance to hammer Union Berlin 4-0 in their league encounter at the BayArena.

The home side took a first minute lead after Ezequiel Fernandez steered home a neat finish from close range from a Miguel Gutirrez assist before Facundo Medina doubled the score with a powerful header from a Gutirrez cross in the 28th minute.

Leverkusen continued with their dominance in the second half as Patrik Schick buried home a low finish following good work from Jarell Quansah to make the score 3-0 prior to Ibrahim Maza firing home a fourth in the 66th minute.

The visitors could not relieve themselves of the constant pressure from the host and could not create chances as they fell to 15th spot on the log, while Bayer move to fifth.

Elversberg shock Monchengladbach

Elversberg won their second Bundesliga match following promotion after a hard earned 4-3 away victory over Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia Park.

Hugo Bolin opened the scoring for the hosts with eleventh minute header before David Mokwa drilled a low shot into the net for a equalizer at the half hour mark.

Bolin completed his first half brace in the 44th minute with a clinical right-footed strike from close range to gain a 2-1 lead at half-time.

Monchengladbach defender Joe Scally added a third with a composed finish in the 56th minute but substitute Maurice Krattenmacher pulled one back for the visitors ten minutes later.

Elversberg midfielder Felix Keidel produced an excellent 80th minute free kick for the equalizer before Krattenmacher completed the turnaround with a neat finish four minutes into additional time, taking the newly promoted side to third place on the league table. 

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Freiburg earned their second win of the new campaign with a 1-0 victory over Paderborn at the Benteler Arena Maximilian Eggestein decided the encounter with a lovely 26th-minute strike from inside the box.

Meanwhile, at the Weserstadion, Werder Bremen defeated RB Leipzig 3-1 in a dominant display that saw the home side take a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Eren Dinkci, Niclas Fullkrug and Marco Grull before Ridle Baku's consolation strike deep into additional time.
