Durban City draw confidence from CAF run ahead of Orlando Pirates clash

City secured their place in the second preliminary round of the competition after beating Rukinzo FC 2-1 in the second leg at the weekend. The result saw them progress 3-1 on aggregate and maintain their positive start to the season.

However, their attention now turns to domestic football and a familiar opponent in Pirates, who are also coming off a successful continental campaign after eliminating La Cure Sylvester 3-1 on aggregate in the CAF Champions League.

For Jurgens, the quick turnaround means City must ensure their focus remains firmly on the challenge ahead.

"We're looking forward to the game. It's another important fixture for us, and after the last match, we've had to quickly shift our focus and prepare ourselves for what's ahead. We know what we need to do, and now it's about taking that preparation onto the pitch," said Jurgens as quoted by Sportswire.

The match will also give City an opportunity to respond after Pirates edged them 2-1 in the MTN8 quarter-finals in August, the first meeting between the teams this season.

Jurgens insists City cannot afford to lose their discipline if they are to produce a different outcome this time around.

"We have to stay focused on ourselves and make sure we carry out what we've been working on," he said.

"We need to stay disciplined, compete for everything, and remain together throughout the game. Those things will be important for us."

The former Stellenbosch FC midfielder is also keen to play his part wherever possible as City look to secure a positive result.

"I always want to improve and contribute more to the team. Whether that's through goals, assists, or the work I do during the game, I want to make sure I'm helping the team in whatever way I can," he added.

"We want to put in a performance that we can be proud of and, ultimately, get the result we're looking for. We know it won't be easy, but we'll go into the game confident, focused, and ready to give everything to the team."
