Eric Tinkler outlines Asante Kotoko ambitions ahead of new Ghana Premier League season

The former Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Cape Town City mentor joined the Porcupine Warriors after parting ways with Sekhukhune United.

He intends to build a strong foundation to challeng for the league after the club ended in a disappointing eighth place last season, and were last crowned league champions four years ago.

"We are looking to start building a foundation, a physical foundation leading up to the start of the league," Tinkler told his new club.

"We really have to over-cross things and start setting friendly games, a lot I would normally do in a pre-season because I said we needed to assess players to see the quality that we have.

"We needed to do a lot of scouting over the past three, four weeks, you know, it's been pretty tough for Stanley [Menzo] and myself because we haven't had much sleep."

There are going to be several changes in terms of the squad," Tinkler added.

"A lot of new faces, a lot of foreign-based players; they come with a lot of experience as well, which I think is very important.

"There are one or two surprises that are coming in terms of our signings, and I think you are going to see a team that is going to fight to compete."

Kotoko begin their season against Debibi United on 6 September.
