Ghana goalkeeper coach makes bold claim about Black Stars trio

Gaspar made the bold assessment as Ghana continued preparations for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia.

The Black Stars will host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, looking to respond after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Côte d'Ivoire in their previous qualifying match.

The Gambia, meanwhile, head into the encounter after securing a 1-0 victory over Somalia.

The contrasting results have left Ghana at the bottom of Group C, while Côte d'Ivoire sit at the summit.

Despite the setback, Gaspar believes Ghana are well equipped in the goalkeeping department, with Lawrence Ati Zigi, Benjamin Asare and Joseph Anang all included in the squad.

Speaking to Ghana Football Association (GFA) media during a Black Stars training session, Gaspar praised the trio and insisted they have the quality to stand above their counterparts across the continent.

"Fortunate to be back, very grateful to be here. We have three outstanding goalkeepers, in my opinion, I have no doubt it's the best assembly of goalkeepers in Africa and I believe that, they believe that and we continue on our mission," Gaspar said.

Ghana will now look to turn that confidence into a positive result against The Gambia as they seek to improve their position in the qualifying group.

Gaspar's assessment also sets up an intriguing battle for the starting goalkeeper's position, with Ati Zigi, Asare and Anang competing for the chance to represent the Black Stars in the crucial qualifier.
