Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala fire Bayern to Champions League win

The German champions were made to work for the breakthrough during a goalless first half, but once Musiala struck early after the interval, Vincent Kompany's side took complete control.

Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Khaikin had been the main reason Bayern failed to score before half-time, making several important saves. He denied Luis Diaz and Harry Kane before keeping out further efforts from Joshua Kimmich and Musiala.

Khaikin was forced off at half-time after appearing to hurt himself while making a save, and Bayern immediately took advantage of his replacement Julian Faye Lund.

Just 77 seconds into the second half, Kane's shot was blocked into Musiala's path and the Germany international fired into the far corner to give Bayern the lead.

"I'm very happy to have scored, happy to be back in the starting lineup in the Champions League," Musiala told DAZN.

"I'm getting my rhythm back. The team really supported me, the coach, my teammates, they were a big help.

"I want to perform - and step by step, have fun again and get back to my best."

Kane then doubled Bayern's advantage when he powered a header from Olise's free-kick beyond Lund, opening his European account for the season.

Bodo/Glimt briefly threatened to respond when Andreas Helmersen spotted Manuel Neuer off his line, but his long-range attempt sailed just over the crossbar.

Bayern continued to dominate and added a third in the 77th minute. A partially cleared corner fell to Alphonso Davies, who smashed a powerful effort through a crowd of players and into the net.

Olise then joined the scoring with a superb curling finish into the top corner before Bodo/Glimt's night deteriorated further.

Odin Bjortuft was sent off for a foul on Olise just outside the penalty area, and the French winger took advantage of the extra space in stoppage time to score his second and complete the rout.

Kane was pleased with the way Bayern remained patient after being frustrated during the opening 45 minutes.

"I'm really happy with the result. We had to be patient tonight," the England captain said.

"I thought we were also better in the first half, their goalkeeper made some good saves. We stayed calm and kept knocking on the door.

"The early goal helped us. We showed last season that we get even stronger as the game advances.

"We wanted to put in a good performance and get the three points in front of our fans. I'm happy we did that."

The victory extends Bayern's remarkable record of winning their opening Champions League match for the 24th consecutive season.

Kompany's side also remain unbeaten in all competitions this season and made a powerful statement on their return to Europe's elite competition.

Bayern now switch their attention back to the Bundesliga, with newly promoted SV Elversberg next up on Sunday.
