Serge Gnabry set for Bayern Munich return in Champions League

Serge Gnabry set for Bayern Munich return in Champions League

The 31-year-old has stepped up his recovery from the adductor injury he suffered in April and has now returned to team training.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany will make a late decision on whether Gnabry is ready to feature, with the club keen to avoid rushing the forward back into action.

"With Serge Gnabry, we have to see and speak after training - there's a possibility he could be involved," Kompany said.

"We want to be sure that he feels his best, though."

Kompany is confident Gnabry can return to the form he showed last season and believes his comeback will increase competition within Bayern's attacking options.

"If it's not today, it will be soon, then we'll have everyone available," he said.

"The main thing is that we've not forgotten how good he was last season. Our aim is for him to get back to that level. We know his qualities."

Kompany added: "The quicker he comes back the better, we want him for the whole season. When Serge reaches his level, everyone else in that position also has to be good, then you have that competition and sharpness."

The Bayern boss also provided an update on Jamal Musiala, who returned from the bench in Saturday's goalless draw with Schalke 04.

Musiala has been carefully managed since suffering two collapses caused by absence seizures linked to a neurological condition during pre-season.

The Germany international has now returned to team training and made his first appearance in the Schalke match, but Kompany stressed that his recovery will continue gradually.

"Jamal Musiala has played some minutes now but is still being built up," Kompany said.

"He's felt good since being back training with the team. We're as close as possible to normality, but we also need to be patient."
