Spain extend Luis de la Fuente contract until 2032

The 65-year-old's previous agreement was due to expire in 2028, but the new deal will keep him in charge through the 2028 and 2032 European Championships as well as the 2030 World Cup.

The extension was approved by the RFEF board of directors, with federation chairman Rafael Louzan backing the decision to maintain continuity around the national team's current project.

De la Fuente took over as Spain coach in December 2022 after Luis Enrique left following the team's last-16 elimination by Morocco at the 2022 World Cup.

Since then, he has led Spain to three major international titles, winning the UEFA Nations League in 2023, Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup.

The World Cup triumph was Spain's second in their history and followed a successful period under De la Fuente, who had previously spent around a decade working with the country's youth teams.

His honours at youth level include European Under-19 and Under-21 titles, as well as a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.

Louzan said the coach's long association with the federation was another factor behind the decision to extend his tenure.

De la Fuente's new contract will take him through the 2030 World Cup, which Spain will co-host with Portugal and Morocco, and Euro 2032 in Italy and Türkiye.

Spain will begin their next international campaign on 26 September when they face England at Wembley. They will then host Croatia in Seville before playing the Czech Republic in Oviedo and travelling to Croatia.

The matches will be Spain's first since their World Cup final victory over Argentina in July.
