Chelsea monitoring Jules Kounde as Barcelona defender's future remains uncertain

The 27-year-old has found his opportunities reduced under Hansi Flick over the past year, with Eric Garcia and Joao Cancelo increasingly preferred.

Kounde has started just one La Liga game this season, raising further questions over his position within Barcelona's plans.

Several Premier League sides are reportedly monitoring developments, while Barcelona have reportedly told Kounde's representatives that they intend to sell him in 2027. A move during the January window is also being considered.

Chelsea's interest is particularly notable given their previous pursuit of the France international. The Blues came close to signing Kounde in 2022, only for Barcelona to win the battle for his signature and bring him to Camp Nou from Sevilla.

Since then, Kounde has developed into one of Europe's prominent right-backs, while also possessing the versatility to operate at centre-back.

That defensive flexibility could make him attractive to new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso, who wants greater depth at right-back.

The London club are also reviewing Malo Gusto's future, potentially creating a route for Kounde to return to west London.
