Kobamelo Kodisang can join new club anytime after Mamelodi Sundowns exit

The reigning African champions agreed to mutually terminate Kodisang's contract before the closure of the transfer window, bringing an end to his two-year stay at Chloorkop.

The move means the 26-year-old does not have to wait until the next transfer window to find a new club, having secured his clearance before the deadline.

Makaab says the priority is now to allow the transfer activity surrounding the window to settle before deciding on Kodisang's next destination.

"Yes, Kobamelo Kodisang is free to join any club of his choice. He has left Sundowns amicably," Makaab told FARPost.

"With the next move, we will wait a bit until the dust settles to make a decision because he got his clearance before the transfer window closed. So he can join a new club anytime."

Kodisang joined Sundowns in July 2024 from Portuguese top-flight outfit Moreirense FC but found regular opportunities difficult to come by amid competition for places and injury setbacks.

He made 13 appearances in all competitions during his first campaign, scoring twice and providing two assists.

The winger was subsequently loaned to Portuguese side AVS Futebol SAD at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, although his stay in Portugal was cut short when he returned to South Africa midway through the campaign.

He then spent the remainder of the season on loan at Stellenbosch FC, where he reunited with Gavin Hunt, his former coach at Bidvest Wits.

Kodisang again struggled to establish himself as a regular starter before returning to Sundowns at the end of the loan spell.

He later trained away from the first-team group before the club and player reached an agreement to end his contract.

With Kodisang now available without a transfer fee, Makaab and the player will assess their options before deciding on his next chapter.
