The 25-year-old has given no explanation for the sudden decision to remove his posts, but his latest social media activity has prompted widespread discussion among Nigerian supporters.
"Dear God: I have no idea what's happening in my life right now, but I just want to say thank You for being with me in my highs and my lows. My life hasn't always been easy, but one thing I know: You have never left my side. You are my everything," Boniface wrote, as quoted by Pulse Sports Nigeria.
The timing of the post has attracted particular attention given the striker's difficult spell since returning to Leverkusen.
Boniface was expected to play an important role after recovering from a serious injury that disrupted his loan spell at Werder Bremen in 2025. However, his situation at Leverkusen has become increasingly complicated.
Despite showing positive signs during pre-season, the striker was left out of Leverkusen's UEFA Europa League squad and has subsequently slipped behind Patrick Schick and Christian Kofane in the attacking pecking order.
His latest Instagram activity therefore comes at a time when questions continue to surround his immediate future and his role within Xabi Alonso's former club.
Boniface later appeared to address the reaction to his deleted posts, writing in Nigerian Pidgin: "Problem wey money go solve them 1 use motivation kill me."
The message appeared to be aimed at those he felt were overreacting to his decision, although it did little to prevent further speculation.
Some supporters have called for people close to Boniface to provide him with stronger support, while others have made claims about his mental state. However, there has been no confirmation from Boniface or his representatives that he is dealing with depression or any other mental-health condition.
The striker has previously attracted attention away from the pitch, including in 2025 when he appeared to announce his retirement from international football before later clarifying the situation.
For now, Boniface's latest posts offer few concrete answers. What is clear is that his future at club level remains uncertain, while his cryptic messages have added another layer of intrigue to an already difficult period in his career.
