US fights back but Internationals hold Presidents Cup lead going into final day

The International team have held the ascendancy for most of the Presidents Cup but were up against the wall on day three.

At one stage during proceedings, they were behind in every single match after a strong fightback by Team USA, who dominated the morning session by winning two and tying one of the four-balls.

The Internationals clawed back somewhat in the afternoon as the points were split between the two sides, giving the visitors a solid three-point lead with just one day of play remaining.

The most dramatic moment of the day came at the final hole of the last foursome, with Canada's Corey Conners saving his par to help the Internationals win the match.

"We were down in every match, and to come back and get one and a half points out of this morning, we felt that was a little victory because we were down everywhere," said team captain Geoff Ogilvy.

"This afternoon, the same thing happened. Team USA played so well all day. They played some really high-level foursomes, especially this afternoon.

"For the boys to somehow come back and pinch two points out of that and split the session was amazing."

The Internationals have only won the Presidents Cup once and never on American soil, so history beckons if they are able to hold their nerve on the final day at Medinah on Sunday.
